About Tenglee Marine & Engineering

Tenglee Team

Tenglee Marine & Engineering Pte Ltd. is envisioned by Mr. Teng Soon Kiat and his four brothers, who pursued their dream of joining the maritime industry to establish a trusted brand of quality shipbuilders.

Beginning as a small company, the brothers built up the business and experienced the challenges of the marine industry first-hand. Working in compliance with the numerous regulations governing the industry, Tenglee also weathered the economic cycles of the marine sector, which typically last about 8 to 9 years, and has successfully sustained its operations to this day.

Surviving the highs and lows of the maritime industry, Tenglee gained valuable experience and became a reliable brand in shipbuilding. The company prides itself on delivering projects on time with the utmost quality.

"We are proud of the fact that we deliver on time, whereby we gain complete trust from our shipowner clients, including the prestigious Keppel Shipyard."
— Mr. Teng Soon Kiat

Establishment of Baku Shipyard

Established in 2012, as a joint venture between SOCAR, the Azerbaijan Investment Company, and Keppel Offshore & Marine, Baku Shipyard stands as the largest and most modern shipbuilding and repair facility in the Caspian region. With a focus on constructing a variety of vessels—including offshore and marine types—the shipyard exemplifies award-winning standards and quality by meeting diverse maritime needs.

How Tenglee started in Azerbaijan

Tenglee entered Azerbaijan in 2012, supporting the construction of the Baku Shipyard in partnership with Keppel and SOCAR. Tenglee's entry into Azerbaijan marked not just an expansion of operations but also the beginning of a transformative journey for the local shipbuilding industry.

Key Success in Azerbaijan

Baku Shipyard, Azerbaijan's first state-owned facility, was launched to strengthen the local shipbuilding sector. Backed by the government's vision to diversify the economy, it followed Singapore's model by partnering with Tenglee to transfer expertise and build a competitive shipbuilding ecosystem.

Nationalization & Skill Transfer

A cornerstone of Tenglee's philosophy in Azerbaijan has been the development of local human capital through our proprietary knowledge and experience in the transfer of skill sets. Tenglee has prioritized training and upskilling local workers, transforming them into highly competent shipbuilding professionals.
